Have you ever been on your way somewhere in California and had to take a detour or couldn't go where you wanted because a scene from a film or TV show was being filmed?

Yes, in front of our townhomes. They blocked off an intersection next to a park and spent an entire day filming a half-second scene for a Propel bottled water commercial. Ironically, the production company had cases of Arrowhead bottled water on hand for the crew.

Yes, I couldn't find a spot to park at Zuma Beach, because the filming crew had reserved 7 out of 12 of the parking lots. And there were private guards who turned me away (when I tried to go in them anyway!).

I was actually in a movie being filmed near work. At the time my office was in Oakland, on 11th St. Between Franklin and Webster.ma couple of xo-workers and I would always take an afternoon walk around the area, and one day a film crew stopped us and said we could keep going but to act natural and just keep walking. Turns out we were in the background on a scene in a silly movie called Made in America with Ted Danson, Will Smith and Woopie Goldberg. That was just a year or so before I quit and moved up here.

Yes
Three times

1. That TV show where all the celebs lived in a house. It was the one with Vanilla Ice. They came to a sandwich shop because they were at a bowling alley doing the show near my house.

2. The original Fast and Furious was filmed right close to where I was working. Damn cars people and closed streets.

3. The opening of that movie with The Rock. San Andreas. I was working across the street from Mann Chinese and we were doing a transformer swap. Go to leave and streets were closed. And freaking people everywhere.

I grew up and spent my early 20's in the San Fernando valley, so I was no stranger to pain in the butt film crews gumming up the works. Later when I was living in Orange County I found myself having to pull over and wait for a crew filming a location scene near Coto De Caza where I was on the way to visit a friend. So annoying.

The trucks were all there, people milling around and they were filming a snazzy sports car driving around. At one point between takes, the car came right up to mine in the opposite direction and stopped to idle. I was face to face with Rob Lowe! I rolled down my window and hollered "Hey! You're making me late! This movie better be worth it!"... he hollered back and with a smile, "I sure hope so!" Ha ha... I have no idea what the movie was, I forgot to ask.

One time they were filming near a store I was at and I noticed it was lunch time and there was a line at the food concession. I got in line and got a delicious meal for free.

I was watching a TV movie last night that was filmed at some California resort and it got me to thinking about how "ordinary people" are inconvenienced by film and TV production.
