Default How's the drive from Monterey to SF?

My younger cousin is looking to go to CSU MB, and wanted to know how frequently she'd be able to go up to San Francisco for entertainment. Is the drive fairly convenient? Any experiences or input?

If you travel between rush hour it's not a bad drive at all. I go up 1 along the coast.
Monterey up to and through Santa Cruz and on up to S.F.
Traffic through Santa Cruz coming from the south on HW1 in the a.m. is brutal. There are lot's of folks traveling up to S.C. and then connecting with 17 to get to San Jose and likewise the afternoon/early evening coming back.
I love the drive up to S.F. and there are variations on the route but, like i said, i like HW1 coastal way.
Also, she might want to know that Santa Cruz has some good "entertainment" as well and is a great place to hang out. Monterey to S.C. is about 40 minutes and is a super easy drive. Just north on 1. Add another hour and a half (roughly & depending) to get to S.F.
