Well, there you go. But, that isn't the study I was referring to.

Much of the high tech manufacturing, aerospace and automobile manufacturing that drove the middle class communities in the Bay Area and Southern California slowly shut down over the past three decades. With that the ones who are of working age have left for nearby Western states and the South. The lower cost of living allowed them to offset the lower wages in lines of work they were familiar with. Those that were able to retire were tempted to cash out the massive equity in their modest suburban homes (as are those still of working age who owned homes). Their adult children usually followed since the California that offered such opportunities to their parents doesn't exist anymore.

Recent immigrants and their progeny often don't have this "I remember when things were better" mindset that middle and working class whites and blacks who were here for decades do. California is still so much better compared to their countries of origin that they're willing to put up with the high cost of living and sometimes many more people in the same living space. This applies to both skilled and unskilled immigrants and their US born kids/grandkids.

The things that enticed whites and blacks to move out of state also tempt Latinos and Asians once they either been here a period of time or several generations. The highly skilled and wealthier of any race will move here from other parts of the country and the world because they have the means to live here in a style they want.

Basically, the people moving out of California aren't necessarily doing so because they are stupid, unskilled or can't compete. Teachers, nurses, law enforcement and firefights are just as likely to leave over the increasingly high cost of living.
It sucks that manufacturing and other good paying middle income jobs have declined, but it is what it is. I'd excuse someone back in the 80s not knowing what was coming, but by the 90s and definitely the 00s the die was cast. There has been a lot of time for native born whites, blacks and others to have adapted.

Nope, the difference is similar between red and blus states.

State Migration Rates, Net Totals: 2010-2015

An opening paragra[h and then scroll down to the rates per State.

Between July 2014 and July 2015, all but nine states added population via migration. Illinois and New York lost the most residents, while Florida and Texas recorded the largest gains. State migration data shown here reflect Census estimates of both domestic and international migration, which includes immigrants and U.S. citizens relocating from abroad. Estimates do not reflect natural change, or the number of births and deaths.

NY is no different than CA. Expensive as hell and diverse. There's a China Town in NY too.

We're talking crap hole places like TN, Louisiana, South Carolina, Arkansas, Alabama, Delaware and Arizona,

Imagine if the Chinese started to build a China Town in TN or Alabama. I bet it'll get burned down like Black Christian Churches.

Only 6 of the 18 are "red" or 1/3.

The perception of East Asians are quite favorable in the most racist states. I've seen it.

Actually this is very untrue.

California has seen out migration from California to other states, in excess of the in migration from other states for decades.

Here is a chart, that demonstrates that prior to 1980 more people moved into California than out of the state and where the major movement was from. Starting 1980, more people moved out of the state than into it, and note where they were going.

How a great American migration to California reversed itself

California has less white only residents in 2016 than there were in California than there were in 1970.

California has less Black residents today, than in 1970.

The population has has about doubled in California, as Hispanics and Asians have been the main factor to increase the population in California. The majority of White People who were by far the major ethnic group in California has been replaced by Hispanics who are now the majority race in California, and white population is shrinking in numbers every year.

Your Statement "For 10 that leave CA. 100 more come in from the Red States", to be accurate would state as 10 white residents leave California, 100 come into the state from other countries, largely Hispanic and Asian.

You are listing the states with declining numbers of residents as people move out. California is not losing residents, it is gaining them as immigrants from other countries, both legal and illegals, are in excess of those leaving the state.

And many talk about how much higher the salaries are in California than other states. Here is a chart that lists the cities with the highest median salaries, after they are adjusted for cost of living in the area. Only on in California the heart of the Silicon Valley, is even on a list of top 15, and they are only in second place behind a Texas city. And note that the median salary adjusted for cost of living is within about a $5,000 per year of Silicon Valley, and that the salary in Silicon Valley adjusts about 40% lower while some cities actually adjust up by thousands of dollars to indicate buying power, not down as is happening in California.

The thing that is tough, is that in California when you adjust for cost of living, the majority of those in California are much worse off than in nearly all states.

Only in California are 24% of the residents living in poverty, when their salary is adjusted for poverty. That is why so many Black and White residents are fleeing California going from where they would be living in poverty to living in middle class other places.
