My wife and I are driving to L.A. with two guests next Sunday, leaving @0330 (zero dark early). We'll arrive at that region at about 0600-0700. Are there any decent breakfast spots in or near there? Places where you've actually eaten recently and can higgly recommend?

I want to find a place that's close to I-5, within say 5 miles. The time is not flexible, so 0600-0700 hours may be limiting. Anywhere in the area from Harris Ranch to Buttonwillow works for us.

Thanks in advance!

Eat at Harris Ranch, of course! Delicious and just about everything is locally-sourced.

Not much if you are traveling via I-5. It's a mostly desolate and remote drive pretty much the entire way south of Tracy all the way to the 99 Jct. What little you do come across will be mostly chain 'rest stop' type stuff like McDonalds, Burger King, Carls Jr, Dennys, etc. That sort of thing. Eat at Harris Ranch if you want. You probably won't go wrong with that at all. I just didn't know they were open for breakfast. Or if you can wait a little longer, go to the Outlet at Tejon, which is right there by the 5/99 split south of Bakersfield and just north of the Grapevine. Eat at Black Bear Diner. Excellent breakfasts. I've eaten at the one in my hometown countless times and love it.

Thanks. Black Bear Diner is a decent breakfast place, there are a few around. Good to know there's one at the bottom of the Grapevine. But that's just a little too far for us before stopping to eat because our planned lunch stop is at 1100, an early lunch. So breakfast can't be too late.

It sounds like our best bet is Harris Ranch. I checked, and they open at 0600 so that'll be just about right for us. I've never been there for breakfast so it'll be good to try it.

Over the years, Pea Soup Andersen's has been a decent place for us to stop for some of our meals, in Santa Nella. We enjoyed our visits....

Yes but that is way north of the area I'm looking for.

I tried that. Yelp didn't help.

Probably a McDonald's in that's stretch. Maybe a Denny's if you're lucky.

I eat light when I travel so fast food is fine. In that particular area you will have to decide if you want to eat before or after you smell the cattle. Certainly not during.

Right. I hear ya. But this time I will have my wife and two (a little more) elderly ladies with me, so an Egg McMuffin might not cut it. Now, a Grand Slam breakfast might be just the ticket. Too bad Black Bear Diner wasn't closer to Harris Ranch, that would be perfect.
