Yeah, I'll commute if the quality of life is worth it. In Maryland/DC, we all commute an hour to work It's not the greatest thing but I guess I'm used to it.
I'm going out there in a couple of months so I'll have to check out what the grade is like. I saw a horrifying video on youtube about a firey accident on the grade!! But I also read that the road has been widened and that it's much better now....
Anyway, I appreciate all the help!

Um, it's a 2 lane going there, and 3 lane coming back. Where has it was a 2 lane. both ways. it's still pretty bad, your commute would be about 42 minutes a day. And, yes, the quality of life is better in south county. but, it's not that bad in Atascadero. Atascadero is pretty sucky right now, but when they get Super Wal-Mart it will be a good city to live in again.

Super Wal-Mart is an easy answer to getting tax revenue in the city to bring money to pave over the old roads, build new bridges, hire more fire and police force, increase construction of houses, and pay for better schools. If Wal-Mart doesn't go in, no one else will, and the 20% down in tax revenue will just go deeper. Lt. Dan, I'm going to Tuesdays City Council in support of Wal-Mart. If you would like to debate whether Wal-Mart is good or bad for Atascadero further, then I'll debate with you at the meeting.
And just so everyone knows. The state of California said to the county that we have to plan for roughly 355,000 population by 2030. And most of that growth will be going to Paso Robles-San Miguel area and North County.

Hello all!
I have been reading the replies for Marie regarding a move from the East, as my family and I are about to do the same. I think what I have understood is that: Atascadero (which is where we were looking) is somewhat challenged financially and can be cold, Grover is nice, but you need to pass the Grade to get to SLO? We were also considering Templeton.... It is my understanding that the schools in Atascadero and Templeton have been doing very well in preparing their students and this is very important to us (2 school age children).
We do want the Central Coast - but my other question is "where do people primarily work?"
Thanks for your help
