I would like input on this very same area as well. Based on a quick Nipomo drive-through last month, my impression is lots of houses without much civic glue to hold them together as a functional city. I also got the vibe of limited economic opportunities for both job-seekers and entrepreneurs throughout most of SLO County.
I do know that Arroyo Grande had growth restrictions in the 70's and 80's resulting from insufficient wastewater treatment facilities. I believe that has since been resolved. This is a beautiful area, and should be a top prospect for anyone wanting the perfect climate...there have got to be reasons why more people don't live there. Where are you, grimstuff and stellar9? Give us some 411.

slo county
For the longest time no one seemed to want to move to SLO county. I am from north county. I remember when there was nothing in the town but a K-Mart. Most of the county is anti-growth. There is no opportunity for job seekers. I am moving out of the county due to that and the high prices of living. I was born and raised here. However, in the past 10 years there has been so many people moving into SLO county and it has raised up the prices and now no one can afford to live here but retired people who have sold thier house in no. or so. CA. We have so many more houses and retail stores coming in.

I LOVE this area! We are relocating to Arroyo Grande from Escondido in San Diego County. In my opinion, Arroyo Grande is one of the most beautiful and quaint places on earth. But, it's true, the cost of living is very high and there are not a ton of jobs to choose from in the area. But, if you can swing it, it is one of the most pleasant places to live life.

Head north to Atascadero and Paso Robles, then east on 41 or 46, is what you are looking at. The least expensive land is at California Valley, for a good reason, flat featureless, but, it is land.
