My wife's current salary is $54,000 / yr. Her average workweek is 12 hour days 6 days / week. Sometimes she works 28 hours straight.

I believe the way they get around labor laws is by claiming this is a "stipend" for continuing education. She is an employee of the University of California and gets healthcare benefits, 401k, etc.
Yeah I'm not sure how residents are classified since they're technically engaged in "supervised training".

If you feel she's being wrongly over worked without compensation, the Labor Standards Enforcement office will hear you out.

Employees are legally allowed (actually required) to take breaks to eat. There is nothing unusual about what this guy is doing. That is just normal life in California.

This is just another typical article, bashing working people. I wish these people would realize that their hard work is not appreciated, and leave California. Then let all the rich people, drown in their own urine and feces. Which they would never clean up themselves.
And the irony is that rents are stupidly high because liberal voters fight every new development tooth and nail and lots of red tape and restrictions jack up the cost of the housing that does get built....then they complain about hard it is for the working man. They're all for the working man until you propose building new housing in their neighborhood.

Yeah I think some residents have tried lobbying, but in the end the ACGME has them by the balls.

Give credit to Democrats in California. Moon Beam knew having union support would be very strategic for their position in California. Just look at the results.

That's still a lot of freaking work hours.

.

BART police work 12 hour shifts, can get extended up to 20hrs and come back in the next day with minimal rest and get extended again. So can most Police officers in the Bay area. San Jose officers sleep in vans outside the station because they cannot afford to live in the area they work.

But don't worry, homeless bums and crack addicts get free housing tin San Francisco

I think the fact it is a BART employee of their union gaming the system which really irks people. They make hand over fist as public employees (for not a lot of work) and force a gridlock on the entire Bay Area every time they don't completely get their way.

Yup. That's the worst part. If the BART union threatens to go on strike, just the economic fallout from such a move is enough of a threat for them to get what they want and bilk more money out of taxpayers.
