Thanks for finding that. It confirms what I said earlier. Police Chiefs are at will employees with no civil service protection, County Sheriffs are elected but they are always looking out for recall efforts or challenges at the next election. Both have a vested interest in blaming crime on anyone other than their crappy leadership. I've seen it, I dealt with it first hand for the 24 + years I worked in law enforcement. These "administrators" would blame their dog if they thought it would do any good.

What a horrible EDITORIAL written by editors to cowardly to even put their names on it. They are covering there liberal ass because they backed the propositions. I hope every law enforcement officer cancels their subscription to that rag I'd only use to pick up my dogs ****.

yes, it is horrible because it calls out a Police Chief who opportunistically used the tragic death of one of his Officers to try to shift blame for his failure as a Police Chief. He should be ashamed, I hope the community calls for his resignation. The disingenuous a** even blamed prop 57 which has not even been implemented yet.

Ditto. And exactly my point in the second post of this thread about the OP posting this topic anew, with graphics, rather than continue the several open conversations in older threads on the same topic if he had new information to share.

That said, still curious about the claims made that four officers have been killed by early release criminals as a result of this legislation. Waiting for clarification. None forthcoming so far. Just more examples of false hyperbole?

I voted for Prop 47.

Without elaborating on all of the nuances of my thoughts and opinion, I regret my decision to vote for Prop 47.

California has proven--like it does with much of what it does--that it can take something well meaning, like giving non-violent offenders a second chance (which I believe they deserve) and screw it way up. Officer Boyle in Whittier was a fatal victim of just that this week.

I'll even go so far as to apologize for my vote. I should've been wise enough to know that Prop 47 would be sold wonderfully, but be a cluster-F. I'm deeply sorry that Officer Boyle had to lose his life, even though I don't live or work in Whittier.
