Legislature for sale...

Quote:
The state Legislature's top 4 leaders accepted $60,000 in gifts last year, according to the required annual reports they filed yesterday.
Quote:
Creep Kevin de León accepted the most amount of gifts. He took in 60 of them, worth a total of $24,381. His gifts included trips to Morocco, El Salvador, Mexico, and Puerto Rico.
It doesn't end there, though. He also got $3,100 in expenses at the Pebble Beach Golf Resort from the Association of California Life and Health Insurance Cos. and the Governor’s Cup Foundation in exchange for speeches.
Plus he got:
  • Free tickets toSea World
  • Free tickets to The Monterey Bay Aquarium
  • Free tickets to a Rose Bowl game
  • A $50 cigar from the Sacramento County Labor Council

This is unusual? Unique to California? In what ways? And these "gift" amounts and kinds are actually ridiculously low in value and number compared to what legislators all across America have always accepted. A "cigar" worth $50? Really? Got your knickers in a bunch over this?

So you really think these "gifts" come without a string? Buying police ticians for favors? Personally I dont think they should be allowed to accept ANY gifts.

I agree they shouldn't be allowed to accept any gifts. 100%. But the only pullable string that comes with a $50 cigar is the one on the wrapper. The point is that this thread is offered as a topic of outrage as if somehow exemplary of California's political decadence. This is garden variety weed patch stuff all around the world let alone the nation let alone the state. These "gifts" are chicken shirts. Historically paltry.

Perhaps that depends upon the planned use of the cigar!
