  • Increase the gas tax by 12 cents per gallon over three years, with a 6-cent increase in the first year followed by two years of 3-cent increases.
  • Increase the diesel fuel excise tax by 20 cents and increase the diesel sales tax by 4 percent
  • Increase vehicle registration fees by $38
  • Require drivers of zero-emission vehicles to pay an annual $100 fee toward maintenance and repair

“We hope to make Caltrans a more efficient organization and by doing so, we will use the savings for more road repairs,” SB1 author Sen. Jim Beall, D-San Jose, said. “So, that's the goal of this bill.”
California bill aims to pay for infrastructure through gas tax, fees

Interestingly enough I know there will be people in here who will make an unsubstantiated claim that none of this money will go towards the general fund. To them I bring up Exhibit A:

Quote:
The state has been diverting $100 million of the $5 billion raised annually to the general fund, according to the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association, along with $1 billion in annual truck weight fees to pay debt on general obligation bonds.

Roadshow: How much gas tax money goes to California roads? – The Mercury News
I'm sure the CalPERs fund managers are giddy with excitement!

But why do we need this if the budget is balanced. Fake news.

The democrats are snakes and wolves in sheep clothing. They go after things like gas taxes and sales taxes because they know the poor have to drive to work and buy things to live on, thus insuring public employee unions and their politicians sky-high salary and pensions.

These kind of things hurt the poor far more than some illegal being deported, but the bottom-half of their voter base is too stupid to see it. They ought be to screaming, "Not my Party." over this.

This is because the carbon trading market did not net enough revenue. So now they are going directly for the consumer.

That's the one part of the bill I actually like, because the majority of the people who drive those crappy hybrids are the ones who voted these idiots into office.

The Unions are feeling the pinch. CalPERs needs an immediate $3 billion injection to stay afloat and it's hard to get water from a rock, no better place to pillage than a CA taxpayer's wallet. They'll gladly give you every last cent, and thank you for it by continually electing you into office.

I'll just leave this here, another story about how elections have consequences from liberal enclave, Austin, Texas.

Quote:
I’m at the breaking point,” said Gretchen Gardner, an Austin artist who bought a 1930s bungalow in the Bouldin neighborhood just south of downtown in 1991 and has watched her property tax bill soar to $8,500 this year.

“It’s not because I don’t like paying taxes,” said Gardner, who attended both meetings. “I have voted for every park, every library, all the school improvements, for light rail, for anything that will make this city better. But now I can’t afford to live here anymore. I’ll protest my appraisal notice, but that’s not enough. Someone needs to step in and address the big picture.”

Liberal Austin homeowners surprised to find they have to pay all the taxes they voted for « Hot Air

Los Angeles and San Francisco literally have hundreds of thousands of these people being forced out due to the tax burdens they VOTED upon themselves. The worst part is that they bring their tax grab ideologies with them, and then price themselves out of the places they had to move to by voting in the same tax grab idiots (e.g Seattle, Portland).

It's so good that the GOP is back in power to lower taxes.
