I don't believe anyone has a "right" to live in an area at a cheap or below market price even if they were born in the area or neighborhood.

In L.A there are a lot of residents putting pressure on politicians to stop or slow gentrification. This is a bad idea in my opinion as it least to socialist style policies.
I'm not sure where someone got the idea that as renters they should be able to live somewhere cheap forever .

I hear the argument that "but businesses won't be able to find service workers " this isn't a problem for businesses hiring lower wage workers . It's actually more an issue for skilled workers .
As others mentioned minimum or low wage workers will commute in to work . Whether it's prime SAn Diego , Manhattan or Beverly Hills .

When employers stop getting applicants THEN they raise wages .

Although the left is celebrating the $15 min wage this is going to accelerate gentrification . Many long time mom and pops won't be able to survive and more of those trendy places will move in. Think less cheap burger joints and more gastropub type places with $15 burgers and $8 glasses of beer.

Nobody is forced to live in an area .
Start researching and visiting other cities in CA and out of state .
Try to keep an open mind about other places to live .
You might be surprised to find that other places might be affordable and nice places to live .

Basically I'd advise to do something about the issue yourself either focus on making more money or move to an area that's affordable .
The politicians will promise affordable housing but you could be waiting and waiting and it likely will never happen . This is something they promise to keep people voting for them .
Sure some will win the affordable housing lotto but I say you are better off betting on yourself versus putting your faith in government .
Exactly.

Funny part is the people complaining and crying about not being able to get a job or being able to afford to live in OC or LA are the first ones to demand MINIMUM WAGE, or RENT CONTROL, two policies that make it much harder for them to get a job in the first place, and a place to rent.

Young people are so ignorant about how the world works, they vote and demand things that make it worse for themselves. Bernie Sanders has done more damage to American Society than the KKK ever did, that's the truth.

They are sacrificing by being away from home and family , but it's more their choice .
But if you think about it everything is choices . It's better when we take responsibility for our own choices and actions .
So easy to blame society , family , government ,etc .

No doubt the $15 wage in L.A and CA will cause more unemployment.

It seems almost weekly now the city of L.A is making tough rent control rules and becoming more and more landlord unfriendly .

It's pretty arrogant to think that they can treat business owners and landlords like that and they'll just keep taking it . California isn't the only game in town .

If landlords want to improve their properties they penalize them . If they want to get out of the rental business entirely they penalize them .
The way things are going it seems risky investing in CA and that's not even taking into account what the economy might do . Just based on the socialist and knee jerk reactions from the politicians it's risky .

Oh well.

The sunshine, beaches, and mountains are worth it.

Plus housing isn't that bad. Look what you can get in LA for only $179,000?

No joke, there are parts of Sun Valley near Burbank that have cheap homes and I wouldn't mind living there. I would make it work in Burbank for 300k.

As Thomas Sowell said, in this life there is no perfect world or perfect situations, only trade offs.

Is there anyway the state can focus on developing the Center of the state? It seems as though most of CAs economic development and concentration is on the coasts where millions upon millions are packed. Perhaps create some triangles?

Yeah actually that's where my home is . On the border of north Hollywood . Can get to Burbank empire center quickly . Can get to noho arts district pretty quick . Hollywood not too far . It's funny though a lot of people don't know where it is even people from L.A .
