People migrating from blue coastal states need to pick and choose places in the heartland carefully- there are areas that may reveal unpleasant surprises to those from California, the northeast and Chicagoland area.
Cheaper is ok, but the lower prices in many cases might bring 'cultural gap' problems.
Being from A 'Liberal region' in many of these areas is like being a leper-believe me.

Celtic, what's REALLY annoying about all the animosity of red staters toward the blue staters is that the blue states pay more in federal taxes than they get back, and the red states pay less in taxes than they get back. IOW we blue staters subsidize those people. OH HOW I WISH WE COULD TELL THEM TO GO JUMP IN THE LAKE IF THEY DISLIKE US SO MUCH.

Here in Oregon they are whining because 23 million dollars in federal timber subsidies have been discontinued. Now Jackson County has actually voted to close their libraries. People here are happy to take federal money, much of which comes from the dreaded state of CA, as long as it arrives here without the people who worked for that money.

Gotta love the red-state attitude.

Oregon is a very pretty state- have been there many times. But outside of the Portland area, Eugene and Corvallis- I found it pretty conservative.

Red staters and conservatives have had a wonderful ride- however that ride may soon end.

Jackson county- ah yes- been there- Medford, Grants Pass, Ashland- pretty 'red- nice climate, gorgeous- but also out of the loop.

When the California exodus ends- what happens?

cheers from back east in blue Connecticut. Actually Californians are finding Connecticut to be an alternative to the PNW and Idaho

Housing here is competitive- plus you do not have to deal with the far right.

Wyoming and Colorado are beautiful. It feels like when you enter the Wyoming the skies are a different, clear, blue.

I lived in Lima, Wyoming for a few months...when I was in my early 20's. Wasn't much to do. But the landscape was awesome. Herds of elk moving across rocky slopes. A river you could see for miles. Not a whole lot of people.

I think most people in California don't like to go east of the Mississippi River. Just like a lot of New Yorkers and people from the East Coast don't like to move far west of the Mississippi River.

Lol, we moved to SoCal from Fairfield county five years ago. There's a lot to love about CT except the winters were too long.

Well the winters are shorter now-global warming- at nearly 50 degrees on January 1st well thats not bad. With Yucca and cold hardy Asiatic fan palms in my garden- well this is becoming a cooler, and cheaper alternative to horrendously overpriced California.

We lived in the Bahamas for three years, from 1984 to 1987. Our neighbors were from the UK, Switzerland, France, Australia, Gibralter, and most countries you can think of. Guess what... when they meet (and denigrate) Americans, it doesn't matter if you're from SoCal, NorCal, Oregon, NY, the South or Florida. We are all lumped in together. And nobody likes any of us, lol.
