Wasn't aware were at a borderline La Nina, but I just find it very odd that this High Pressure System over us is one of the strongest it's been in a while where so many places on the West Coast are reaching record high temps and remaining over 100+ for a week or more, but this High Pressure System doesn't seem to have much effect on the water temps off the California Coast that much.

The Cold California Current sure is powerful enough to even withstand Strong High Pressure Systems during the summer, and still maintain cold water temps even though the air is descending over us and heating us all up a lot.

Currently at 2:10pm PT at Morro Bay it's 57 degrees despite this Strong High Pressure over us...Not even the air temperatures around Morro Bay is being warmed up by this High Pressure, and i'm sure other parts of the California Coast are still in the 50's and 60's i'm sure

In Ventura working and it is 72. At my home in Oxnard it is 74. Supposed to get up to 77 on Monday.

This heat is killing me. We had to get our fans out from the garage, dust them off and place them in the house.

In Bakersfield at the moment it's 108 degrees, and that's why I don't go out on my exercise bike/walk until around 8pm.

I still much prefer this weather than the gloomy, wet weather of the Pacific Northwest where I lived in the past.

70 now and the big heat is gone, although the warning still says high heat advisory until 9 PM.

Update: foggy

It topped 90 today where I am (east of San Diego). By 5, it was a comfortable 84, and I turned off the AC. Now, at 7:38 p.m., it's 74. Our pool is at 84 degrees -- going for a dip before bedtime!

I wish my pool were 84 degrees. It's practically "freezing" at 69 and if I want to use it this weekend, I'll need to heat if for 12 hours.

I wish I could take an evening dip but that can only happen for me when we get to the dead of summer or when we have Santa Ana winds.

I noticed this too, I read that normally chilly city of San Francisco broke the century mark yet San Bernardino in the southland's normally hot inland empire fell a few degrees shy of the century mark on the same day.

I am puzzled at how come this heat wave hit NorCal harder the SoCal in general with just the exception of the deserts of the Southland which recorded the states hottest temperatures nearing if not reaching 120.

Though summer temperatures arrived late this year and May to June is often chilly, foggy, and gloomy. I guess its the lingering La Nina which causes lower ocean temps and a strong marine layer. The ocean is still pretty cold I heard so we need to beware of the temperature shock going into the water.

Though the biggest mystery I always have and is pretty apparent in this heat wave is how come overnight temperatures in the Central Valley are usually much warmer or at least feel so much warmer than the overnight temperatures in the interior of LA basin including the inland empire even though daytime highs are pretty similar? Any explanation on that?
