Default Quiet cabin rentals in Ukiah/Willits area?

Hello. I will be relocating soon to Mendocino County and working in Ukiah (I'm originally from the Bay Area, but I spent the last 10 years in Southern Oregon--a great place, by the way). I've been keeping an eye on available rentals in the Ukiah/Willits area via online newspaper ads and craigslist, but they're pretty sparse. I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions about how I might access the unadvertised rental network in the area?

I'm looking for a quiet, decent place for myself and my two cats, preferably out of town. Rural is good, rustic is fine--I spent many happy years in Oregon renting pine cabins in the woods; one was off-grid. I would like to avoid noise, loud neighbors, and unsafe areas. I can't afford much on what's going to be a limited salary for a couple of years--probably $700/mo max. I've got sterling references from all my past landlords, live a quiet life, and am not into any kind of drugs, partying, or carryings-on (too old!)

Thanks for any leads, advice, suggestions about the best places to look.

If you're looking for off-grid, rural rentals, you won't find it in Ukiah. Maybe outside of Willits; a better bet would be to look around Laytonville, and maybe even farther north, like Garberville.

As for noise and loud neighbors, I wouldn't worry about it over much, however, "unsafe" is another matter. I guess you should decide whether you feel comfortable around lots of pot-growers and the marijuana trade in general.

Thanks, grimstuff. I'll check out the areas you mentioned. As for pot-growers, I guess it all depends on how aggressively territorial they are. There was a lot of talk in Southern Oregon about big operations in the forests up there, but unless you were a Forest Service or BLM worker, you'd never notice it. I get the feeling that it's a "live and let live" attitude that prevails in Mendocino County--would you agree?

Be careful. People who moved into the hills are almost always pot growers, and they will defend their crops with automatic rifles.
