I've seen several videos on YouTube pertaining to Slab City (aka, "Stab City" ) as well. GSR13 told me in another thread that it's basically a squatter's haven, and is still dangerous to the average city slicker (like me or you), due to squatters, the us-against-the-world mentality, territorialism due to the lack of basic boundaries of one's property, and of course, meth.

Have any of you watched the documentary called "Darwin" (2011)? It exposes the life in the very small town of Darwin, which is located near Death Valley. The residents discourage any more outsiders from moving there, or even traveling through it, due to the difficulty in obtaining water.

One thing that the film does not mention is that the Grand Poobah of Darwin, who gets the most screen-time, is on the list of sex offenders. Most of these types, as well as outlaw bikers, meth cooks, tweakers, squatters, vandals, and other sorts of riff-raff tend to favor those out-of-sight places. Many of these aforementioned types head out to the far reaches of the open desert to escape previous transgressions and basically the law.
