Hey now, I can look my options can't I? I also said nothing about moving in that case: merely renting to hipsters.

Of course you can look, but why not buy to rent in your home town, it would be lots easier to keep an eye on it.

Can't really buy a house worth 2+ million. Even in cheapest parts of the bay with in commuting distance it's like 550-600k.

Arcata and even Eureka are dirty little towns and proud of it, at least three years ago when I was there.

The filth and depressed areas fuel the need to get high and may even help with the buzz, or at least justify it.

They do have a Costco one block over off the 101, but it had no visible signs of it's existence or directing you to it when I was there.

You are told not to leave anything associated with pot or other meds, even empty baggies that were used for actual food items, cigarette lighters etc., visibly in your vehicle as it may be broken into.

Sometimes even coughing can cause desperate heads to turn and ask for a doobie if you look suspect.

I was told a half-dozen years ago that one of the larger dispensaries/grow ops had to give one eighth of top-shelf weed per week to the local transient tokers with a med card, or maybe just an ID, or even....

I told that to a another dispensary and they chuckled at the top shelf moniker, as in prove it.

Granted, it may have been more of a concession to the city to be able to grow that much, as opposed to an attempt to keep the crime or panhandling down, although it surely didn't hurt.

After every grow cycle, they placed the old soil in the parking lot for others to take it.

Granted, there are some great homes in some nice neighborhoods around those areas, but it's the depressed areas that you need to go into to do most of your daily activities and shopping.

Will Arcata and Eureka clean up their act if dealers and growers can legally and visibly spend and invest their money is another issue, maybe they already did.

You just need to look at OP's posts to know you can't take him serious. He can buy a house, but feels he deserves a much better house. So instead of getting a starter house he'll just continue to brag about how he is in the top 10% of wealth and can't afford to buy a house and how everything is 2 million or more.
Truth is he just likes living at home with Mama for free.
If you try to use logic on him he will just start spouting off other statements none of which he can back up. He also has a fetish about Eureka and cities around there but has never been there personally.

Probably because the jobs available there are not a good fit for tech-centered people.

And because employers in Silicon Valley are generally hostile to telecommuting, due to massive ego issues and other personality disorders.

The jobs that are easiest to telecommute with are apparently impossible to telecommute

Clearly the OP is directing this at people already living in CA, so you think we care? If I wanted to live in uptight conservative land, I'd go to Idaho or Arizona.
