The first article shows the problem.

"The tax plan sets three income tax tiers: 3.1 percent, 5.25 percent and 5.7 percent. Kansas currently has two rates, 2.6 percent and 4.6 percent, for tax year 2018."

They are taking more from the people.

As to the second link, good in some areas bad in others, better than CA in some and worse than others.

Imagine if CA copied the new KS rates. Definitely better than CA's rates.

The dairy industry is disgusting in general. I think if more people really knew what went on inside of this industry they would cease to continue supporting it.

Why do people drink cows milk? Cow's milk is made for cows...you don't see cows drinking human milk. You don't see humans drinking cat's milk or dog's milk. It makes no sense especially when cow's milk has to be fortified before being sold for human consumption.

Lets now look at the chicken and turkey industry.

I don't support any of this!

I don't think this is an isolated incident. I believe abuse is rampant in the dairy and animal farming industry.

Several studies from university veterinary departments have concluded that free range isn't so good for the chickens, because of the higher rates of serious injuries/death. (IIRC one was from UC-Davis, and had all sorts of facts and figures. I'll see if I can find it again.)

People pushing for these changes either have a long-term goal of no chickens at all, or have no clue how many eggs we use -- California alone uses something like 5 billion eggs a year. That's a minimum of 20 million chickens at any one time. You're going to put them where, exactly?? This isn't a dozen hens in a grassy paddock, as the bleeding hearts envision.

Even fenced and divided into as small of groups as practical, "hen panic" is an issue with uncaged hens -- something flies overhead, a hen goes OMG A HAWK! and they all scramble to get away from imagined danger, and wind up massed against one side of the enclosure. And then you get piles of hens dead of broken bones and suffocation.

Chickens feel safest when some OTHER chicken is on the outside, and they themselves are squeezed into the middle where no predator can get them. This basically describes the modern egg battery (where they're also prevented from pecking the life out of rivals -- chickens are cannibalistic).

Further, out in the open they're exposed to diseases and parasites, and it's basically impossible to prevent salmonella infection (salmonella is a natural inhabitant of hen ovaries, but can be prevented by early dosing with tetracycline).

Before modern production methods, there were two problems with eggs:
-- They were very expensive (the equivalent of about a dollar per egg in modern money).
-- They were a major vector for salmonella (hence the old advice to always thoroughly cook eggs). Modern confined hens are treated for salmonella as chicks and thereafter have zero exposure to dirt, which is why there hasn't been a case of salmonella poisoning via California-produced eggs (raw or cooked) in about 20 years. Free-range eggs will put an end to that.

As to farrowing crates, they too developed to mitigate natural issues with pigs (free range or barned): sows are big, piglets are tiny. Sows are careless about lying on piglets. They also often eat some of the piglets. Farrowing crates prevent piglets from being squashed and eaten alive. Meanwhile the sow gets to be in a pig's idea of heaven: lie in climate-controlled shade,, eat your fill, and never have to move. As to the so-called ideal of free range pigs, consider that pigs are escape artists (your standard fence won't hold them) and you'll never find them all, then look up what 8 million feral hogs are doing to Texas.

We're often told how agriculture is abusive from sheer greed, but even it it were all greed -- stressed, sick, or dead animals generate costs, but produce no revenue. This is why everything in animal agriculture has developed over time to ensure the least stress and the fewest sick or dead animals that can be managed (given we deal with tens of millions every day) -- because that's the only way to make a profit. Sometimes it doesn't look so pretty to the ignorant, but the livestock don't care about your perceptions.

Last time something like this made a big splash, some months later it came out that the entire incident was staged by PETA, who hired illegal aliens to do the dirty deeds after hours. The 'animal rights' movement believes that the end justifies the means, and are willing to torture animals if that will convince good-hearted urbanites (who've never shoveled manure in their lives) to enact yet another ban on animal use and ownership.

California Leftist: "Man I'm so glad we have free range eggs now."

Normal Person: "Uh, but they cost $30 a dozen."

California Leftist: "Yeah but the Chickens aren't suffering."

Normal Person: "You mean before they get butchered for pet food, or Campbell's Chicken Soup?

California Leftist: "Yeah...... isn't that worth all the money?"

Normal Person: "Well you don't have any money after all the annual tax increases, and paying $30 a dozen every week for eggs."

California Leftist: "Yeah but I feel better."
