Where do people shop as its a small town, are the people friendly, are there things to do in the community, nice places to eat, any information would be helpful in my research "WHERE TO LIVE" thank you for any help!
Boulder Creek is more a governmental municipality than a town. People who live there are essentially in the wilderness. It's a beautiful area, but geared towards people who don't want places to eat or nice, little shops.

My favorite towns...

North Shore Lake Tahoe
Shasta County(Redding)
Auburn

The only city I like is the city of my birth, San Diego. I'm an outdoors kind of person, which is obvious by the choices I made.

Some responders chose the expected cast of touristy, bohemian, foo-foo coffee stops. That's fine, but I prefer a bit more authenticity-and a splash of traditionalism, though that can be a rare commodity here in the land of fruits and nuts.

Try these on for size:
1. Fortuna-amid the redwoods, and near the coast, but still has the "blue collar feel" about it and is unspoiled by tourists. Fortuna qualifies just so long as the Reds remain in their dorms and communes in Arcata. Once they infiltrate Fortuna immediately comes off the list!

2. McCloud, in Siskiyou County. This former company town is a beauty-currently sorting out some values and searching for its new identity without a lumber mill.

3. Cloverdale. In northern Sonoma County. The location with the vineyards and rolling hills is envious. This choice is right on the cusp though, as the bay area sprawl is knocking on the door and forever changing the character of this former milltown. Wait a minute, just how many coffee shops...

Honorable Mention: Paso Robles, Burney, Downieville, Chester.

My favorites would be the most beautiful and fun. I have decided to move back to CA to Monterey because it is the only one of the three where I could also find a job.

1. Monterey

2. Mammoth

3. Trinidad

Default my 3 cents:

I will toss out:

Mineral - just at the doorstep to Lassen Volcanic N.P. ... really just a block is about all there is .... no more ... guess it still qual's as a town.

Shelter Cove - up along the northern coast ... gateway to the King Range ... black sand beaches ... Sinkyone Wilderness .. much more ... ONE HELLUVA steep down hill drive to descend into though! Whew man, gotta have top-notch brakes on your car.

Groveland - Yeah, what the heck ... it's a dream pulling in everytime I'm scooting over to Yosemite for backpacking ... great cafe right at the [east] end of town too!

As you may have guessed, I like rain ... a lot of rain ... and the outdoors!.
