Doesn't look like there are too many places to eat or drink at.

That's what Ridgecrest, Barstow (and its surrounding areas), and/or the Victor Valley are for.

I would hate to have to leave town anytime I wanted to go out.

Huell Howser’s spaceship house is near Newberry Springs, which is near Barstow.

His other house is near 29 Palms, where a big Marine base is, and close to Joshua Tree NP.

They are both in the Mojave Desert, but nowhere near Trona!

Trona is close to Death Valley...closest town to Trona is Ridgecrest.

Trona used to be “just ok” (sort of), a long time ago. Yes, the HS football team played on a dirt field.

I am very surprised at the houses you all found of Trona on the real estate sites. Most houses there were burned-down trash pits. Maybe flippers have run out of SoCal properties and getting desperate??? Good luck with that!

Brandon, why don’t you spend the night in Trona & report back? There used to be a motel there...maybe it’s still there!

I am willing to bet that Trona is even cheaper than the Salton Sea towns (Salton City, Desert Shores, Salton Sea Beach, Bombay Beach), the Eastern Coachella Valley towns (Thermal, Mecca, Oasis, North Shore), the Morongo Basin (Twentynine Palms, Yucca Valley, Morongo Valley, Joshua Tree, Pioneertown, Landers, Johnson Valley, Wonder Valley, Amboy, Cadiz, Flamingo Heights), the Barstow Area (Barstow, Lenwood, Hinkley, Daggett, Yermo, Newberry Springs, Harvard, Hodge), the Palo Verde Valley (Blythe, Mesa Verde, Ripley, East Blythe, Palo Verde), AND Needles.

Oh, and I'm also willing to bet that Trona is even cheaper than Chiriaco Summit, Desert Center, and EVEN the Death Valley towns (Shoshone, Tecopa, Furnace Creek, Homewood Canyon-Valley Wells, Death Valley Junction, Darwin, Keeler).

But maybe not cheaper than Darwin.

Here's an auction for a vacant lot in Trona. Opening bid $1! It's just a stones throw from the chemical plant. What could be better!

And yet, Trona is still not cheaper than Slab City.
