If the renewel fee is not paid within 30 days following the expiration, the DMV sends a series of computer generated delinquent registration notifications to the vehicle owner(s). If the renewel still remains unpaid after 90 days the account is transferred to the Franchise Tax Board (FTB) for collection. FTB has the authority (and will) withhold wages, levy bank accounts, intercept state tax refunds & seize real or personel property to collect delinquent registration fees. Even if you dont plan to drive the car the dmv wants & will take your money. Unfortunately the best bet is to pay the thieving 18.00 non op fee. The FTB is agressive & horrid.

Agreed. I paid for my registration in May back in late April. It sucked because the DMV never sent me mail for renewal, so I physically had to drag myself to the DMV.
Good thing I made an appointment for 10 AM on a Wednesday

I pay my tags but many dont. If you're not going to drive your car for a long period of time then a non op is best. Way back when the dmv didnt have non ops & go after you for not paying your tags. Its all about revenue now. 18.00 for a non op is stupid. It first was 5.00 then 10.00 then 15.00 then 17.00 & now 18.00. Its just weird that you have to pay for your car to sit on PRIVATE property. Only in ca. I posted this info cause alot of people didnt know this. Im just trying to save them a major headache. I dont trust the DMV & FTB. These are people that most likely have 0 friends & are miserable so they take it out on us. Maybe they feel they arent making enough & have a poor benifits/pension package. HA!!!

I agree with eagle7. State workers are lazy scumbags with no incentive to do a good job. The difference between State employees and welfare recipients is that welfare recipients have a set limit on how long they can steal.

Not all state workers are lazy but they sure got it made in the shade & many of them treat the public like crap cause they know they can. There benefits are unfreaking believable & we are paying for it. Ca is 19 billion dollars in the hole & ALOT of that is due to the public employees & the whorid, foul, greedy & cowardly ca legislature.
