Are hotels making a lots of money this wildfire season from all the evacuees?

What area are all the evacuees flocking too? If you get burned out of your home you may as well head to the beach right? It seems like Ventura and Santa Barbara are getting hit very badly. Are they all heading towards LA, and OC?

Many people have evacuated to San Luis Obispo County and most hotels there are offering discounted rates for evacuees.

As should be. I was so hoping they wouldn't after reading this thread's title earlier today.

Hotels usually jack up the prices due to availability regarding special events or holidays.

Since that is the supply and demand norm, they should raise them for the sightseeing non-evacuees only(!), if they must at all, to keep more rooms available for the locals.

Lodging establishments are there to provide lodging to those in need and dont have at the moment. That would include people burned out of their usual residences. If a person needs to stay out of home for whatever reason like bedbug treatment, flooding etc, etc, and not some national/statewide emergency, I dont think a lodging establishment will give them special rate.

Instead FEMA emergency funds, home insurance/ renters insurance, or some kind of gubment assistance should help anyone in need who cannot afford to pay for it. Afterall why should they lose out on the business?

When you lose your home and everything you own, the last thing you worry about is spending time at the beach.

It really doesn't matter what you think. You thoughts have zero impact on businesses trying to take care of their own.

Seriously, just getting sleep would be difficult.

I am not trying to imply that my thoughts will impact their business.

Why do you care and what would you do with this info? I can't help but scratch my head when I read threads like this. Common sense should tell you that in all likelihood, if there's a shortage of housing, there is probably going to be greater demand (doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out). And if you even mildly cared about these evacuees, you would have taken the time to research the type of support they were receiving rather than worrying about whether a hotel was making a profit.

Raising the price more than 10% during or shortly after a natural disaster is a crime, so no, they probably aren't.
