Let us now praise California's Gov. Jerry Brown, who is calling for reductions in gold-plated, unsustainable public-sector pensions in the nation's most-populous state.

Yes, give credit where credit is due

I don't agree with Brown on everything (e.g., Bullet Train), but on balance, he's one of the most fiscally responsible and long-term thinking governors (or politicians) you'll find anywhere

LoL breach of contract. You can't roll bacl what you are contractly obligated to provide. Only way to get out of it is bankruptcy.

I love my benifits. I don't pay for health care. 21% of my pension comes from my own pay check. But we still pay in to Social Security.

The general public is scum, and there is a reason everyone from cops to postal workers despise the public. They think they should get services for cheap LOL!!!!!

Man, that's a slap in the face to the Democrat Unions in the state. I wonder how this will have an effect on voters.

pay is also based on availability of labor. and current govt employees are not indispensable.

The general public is why you have (had) a job. Please don’t ever forget it. Btw, I used to work for the State I live in plus the city. That is the first thing I learned.

I work in the public sector. The math for pensions is unsustainable. My employer puts in over 100% of my pay to keep the pension plan solvent. That's on the top of the over 15% of my pay that I put in. And the pension plan's future liability is only 56% funded.

When you call the general public "scum", you shouldn't be surprised when they resent you.

Government pensions and benefits for older generations were less generous, but they started getting out of control, especially around 2000-2001 when benefits were increased at many California public agencies....just in time for Baby Boomers to retire. Everyone KNEW this was going to happen, yet the benefits were increased anyway. Short sighted is the nicest thing I could say about what happened.
