Default Lil' Bit Scared...Madera, CA

So, my husband has been offered a promotion to Madera, CA. I don't know that city...but I have heard/read about its neighbor, FRESNO! I'm wondering if Madera has high crime or gangs, as I've heard of in Fresno. Actually, any info at all about this city or nearby living suggestions, would be very helpful. THANKYOU!

My Husband I drove through Fresno, Madera, Merced, Turlock and Modesto this weekend as we are considering relocating. We are currently living in Orange County, California. Fresno is everything you've heard it is. Out of all those cities I would suggest Turlock. It is the cleanest city I've seen between Stockton and Bakersfield and has the most newer shopping areas as well. The communities are clean (although every city has a bad neighborhood) and new construction is going up everywhere. Where are you moving from?

We are currently in Paso Robles, CA. Its about 1/2hour from Pismo beach. I love this town. . . but alas...we will have to move for the promotion to Madera. More specifically, how was Madera? Is it really just the same as Fresno??? Aaaahhh!

Madera is much, much smaller than Fresno. Fresno has a population of over 400,000 while Madera is just over 50,000. In researching this area for oursleves, I found a small town or community called Madera Acres, which said that it is the "nicer" area of Madera, but it must be off the highway a bit because we never saw it. I heard it has the nicer more expensive houses there. Because of the looks of Fresno and Madera just in driving through it on the highway, we didn't even stop. Sorry I can't tell ya it's a beautiful city with lots to offer! I'm telli' ya, check out Turlock, everything I've read in reseaching that whole area always comes back to that city as being the better choice for living.

Yeah, I know about Turlock...it is a nice/beautiful city. Turlock is about an hour and a half drive from Madera, so I can't really consider that as an option. I'll have to look into that Madera Acres. It sucks when you can "afford" to live in a nice area...but theres none to be found, which sounds like may be the case here. uggghh!!

Actually, Turlock is only 45 minutes from Madera, but is still probably more than your husband would want to commute for work. Are you guys gonna be able to visit the area before moving? I am sure with some driving around you guys will see an area in Madera you can eventually like. Good luck, I wish you guys the best!
