Aha! So you subscribe to the school of personal ethics that says if others can ignore responsiblity then we all should take that as a green light? And the fact that such “third world” countries like Rwanda, Kenya, Bangladesh ... et al, HAVE banned single use plastics is meaningless to the campaign ... and that America, as the world's far and away greatest consumer nation producing exponentially more trash and pollution than the rest of the world ... well, hell, we can just be pigs if we want! Right?

You continue to show your colors of concern for your nation and fellow man. Another example of why readers here should sit at attention to your many advisories and personal claims of qualification to make them!

GO CALIRESTORATION!

Here's a picture in Long Beach. Should we meet up for some paddle board yoga?

Long Beach is not much above a third world country unfortunately.

No one said they want more trash and pollution. That's a ridiculous strawman.

People are arguing that sending waiters to jail for giving someone a straw is about the dumbest leftist solution to a problem ever (and there are a lot to choose from).

That's not very friendly. I'm sure the good folks down in the Naples or Belmont Shore or Bixby Knolls would disagree with your assessment of their fine city. Sure they get more than their fair share of plastic refuse do the location at the end of the LA River but overall it's a nice place.

I think it is funny that the only man in the2nd picture is not on a paddle board but in a canoe/kayak (Can't think of the name right now) and sure looks like he needs more exercise.

Looks "pretty" good to me in that section of Long beach.

There's no strawman in that post. And there's no suggestion that you said you wanted more trash and pollution. My comment was very clear: you represented that since some “third world countries will continue to pollute” then it is stupid for California/America to curb our pollution. Go back and read what you wrote.

And many people, including you, as the OP who brought us this thread topic, didn't bother to explore the bill and its writer. Had you taken the time you'd have found that the bill never intended for there to be criminal penalties assigned. Those were tacked on as a function of some blanket protocol association and can and will be removed before the bill goes to Brown.

To further point out your blindly partisan superficiality, the bill doesn't call for banning straws at all - even plastic ones, let alone penalize waiters. It calls for some categories of restaurants (not including fast food chains) to stop providing plastic straws unless requested by the consumer.

Speaking of “ridiculous” ... what's ridiculous is posting crap you don't bother to research, just to create partisan ridicule.

If only we could. What a mess.

The last chance for California to say no to polystyrene plastic trash this year

Good article.

America can keep running on Dunkin’, so long as it’s ready to switch to paper cups. Dunkin’ Donuts (DNKN, -1.52%) announced Wednesday that it’s doing away with its controversial, non-recyclable foam coffee cups, and will instead start using only double-walled paper cups by 2020.

In California and New York, the move is expected to start even sooner, with a rollout this spring. The new paper cups are already in use at a store in the company’s birthplace, Quincy, Massachusetts.
