California is a lovely state. The beaches, ranches, the redwood forest, wine country, flowers in winter--it's an amazing place. If housing were cheaper, I'd have moved there a few years ago. But I moved to Indiana, the second-worst state, and love it here despite all the naysayers on CD. Don't let the knuckleheads get you down!

That isn't true...Their are many Low to Middle Income People who live in the Central Valley and Deserts who live comfortably.

Now of course if your rich California and all the other 49 states isn't gonna be that bad because you can afford a mansion with a view.

1. North Dakota

Cold, cold and more cold Northern States.

I would say these State's probably do not have the best QOL, they just have the least to complain about.

Not only does California have the worst quality of life, it apparently also has far too many people who don't know the difference between there, their, and they're (or your and you're). Could the two possibly be related? Poor quality of life due to blind grandmothers ("Gramma Not See") ?

#1 with all the criteria added together is Iowa. I lived there for a year and a half. I can believe it. No, it doesn't have California's climate or scenery, but it is a low stress, pleasant place to live. Decent economy, very good schools, low crime, clean air. If I had kids and had the choice of raising them in California or Iowa I'd choose Iowa hands down. No question.

You don't know much about California if you think the only affordable places to live are Fresno and Bakersfield

^^ I was referring to North Dakota being having the same population as Bakersfield and Fresno combined, not about cost of living.
