Reno NV is pricing me out. Long time NV resident. No way can I keep up with the rents. I'm paying more than half my income in rent and that's about to jump soon. Looking to a border town possibly. Need to stay near family in Reno. Lived in Dayton. Been all over the state. Sick of the religious venom here.

Hate, yes hate, evangelical christian churches. That's a whole other topic. Raised Catholic but now atheist. I'm looking to find out just how "Christianized" border towns are between CA and NV. I like Susanville and have spent time there. Just never know how it really is until you move and I was hoping it isn't overly religious (like Dayton). Portola/Quincy? which isn't really border town but a doable drive back to Reno for me. Truckee is too pricey. I don't like Carson/Gardnerville/Minden with the last two being better than Carson. I'd even do Markleeville.

Or am I doomed with the heavy handedness of these religious groups? Right now I'm angry they are trying to shut down legal businesses in Lyon County. Sick of how they infiltrated Dayton's schools and continue to do so.

Single mom - one kid out of the house, other is 16. We are very outdoorsy, fishing, hiking. I know people rag on Susanville because of the prison. Can't be any worse than the state prison down in Carson City, half the workers are on drugs or brought up on charges for crazy stuff.

But are there a lot of evangelical groups in Susanville or other towns I mentioned?

You’re not going to find what you want until you get over your antichristian prejudice

Aside from some imports that staff the prisons in the area, Susanville has an Indian Rancheria, OP. You won't run into any evangelism, there. It's a fairly diverse population, generally; I imagine you might run into a few hard-core religious types, but generally, people are low-key about that, AFAIK. What line of work are you in? You don't seem to worried about finding a job.

It is 86 miles from Susanville to Reno, not an easy commute. Especially in winter, are you looking to find a new job, or to travel to your existing job?

Somehow I'm attracting the religious, even online. So forget it.

**I'm a web dev and do consulting, site construction, and just about everything in between. No need to commute. But again, I think it was a mistake to pose my question on here.

Maybe next time just ask for advice and don’t rant about how you hate Christian churches. The CA forum is the perfect place to ask about CA towns.
