We paid for CA thru the Gadsden Purchase & Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo.
That is pretty funny. Some guy breaks into your house, steals your stereo and jewelry then at gun point forces you to accept a $50.00 bill so he can say he didn't steal it, he bought it. That is the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo.

Oh, the reason the US had Gadsden purchase south Arizona, is that old Santee Ana hood winked the US, the US thought it was going to keep the land south to the Mar De Cortez, but did not read the fine print. Mexico kept the land, then when the railroad needed to be run to the south, America went back with hat in hand asking for what it thought it had bought.. Those sneaky Mexicans got paid twice for the same chunk of land.

Default California is the Devil

I moved to California about a year and half ago from Long Island, New York and all I have to say is, get me out of here! Not only is it ridiculously expensive (I can't really say much about that considering I'm from one of the most expensive places to live myself), but it doesn't have much to offer someone such as myself. I feel California is the most hypocritical state among the 48 contiguous states. California prides itself in being one of the most environmentally aware states and one of the most liberal as well. How come there is so much pollution here? What's that brown smog cloud that you can see from miles away when driving into LA on the 101? Is it candy cane dust? No, I think it's f*cking exhaust from the 8 billion cars on the road here and the bumper to bumper traffic you can never seem to get away with. I think it's also from the **** rivers flowing through the cities. Or maybe it's the tainted water that smells of sulfur?

About the liberal thing...I have never felt so outcasted in my life. I thought California was supposed to be this open-minded, free-spirited haven for people? Not quite. Only if you are a liberal. Trust me, I am not a conservative either. Actually, I don't affiliate myself solely with any one political idealogy, but people are only open to what you have to say here if it's what they want to hear. I think New York is much more open-minded.

I know people from California are going to attack me and rattle off a list of all the great things about California, but please, save your breath. No one could convince me otherwise of how I feel about California.

Of course, I would do anything to move back to New York, but I met my boyfriend here and he's not exactly ready to move to the Big Apple. Hopefully one day, and I can leave this hellhole of a state. Sure, it's beautiful and it has lots to offer weather wise, but would you date a really hot guy or girl who has no personality? I wouldn't. I need to live in a place that has character. California has no culture, the people are rude and self-centered, it's a lonely place, and it has no tolerance for outsiders. Plus the whole immigration thing is out of control. I have to worry about driving around among people who are not legal citizens and do not have insurance. So, if they crash into me, I'm screwed. Great. One more thing to love about California.

Just remember, no matter where you are, there you are, people are people, Californian, New Yorkian or Mexican. Typically if you find people nasty and brutish, rude, etc. You have created that world.

Besides, we all know Easterners and cold, rude, abrupt, etc.

Illegal aliens have destroyed it. Our once quiet, safe, and attractive valley has been transformed into a dirty, dangerous, Third World slum. We've already been repeatedly robbed and assaulted by these folks. If we don't get out of here soon we'll likely get violently killed here.

I have been to Rome on vacation twice. We always wanted to live in EU for a few years, we had imagined Germany or Holland. But we will travel a lot while in Italy!

Ditto.

And before any liberal pulls the race card and says that I'm a racist (their usual argument ), it has nothing to do with race. It has to do with respecting the laws of the land and the land itself. If they come here illegally, they have broken the law and then don't care to uphold any laws. They think they are above the law and frankly, here in CA they are. This state is backward and Arnie's new SS law just proves that.

Why did I leave..

I was a policeman in L.A.

Leaving was a no brainer when I retired...

its like asking Rodney if he wants to get beat again by LAPD... the answer is self-evident

The Bad

Unbelievable traffic
Rampant crime
Most polluted place in the US
Harried people
No open space for miles
27 blocks from the beach in Santa Monica cost me 210k in 1980.. sold for 567k in 1985... now its a mil.. for a clean small house/pool in a "nice" neighborhood, where you can still hear gunshots but the gangbangers normally stay a block or two away
New meaning is brought to the words "cultural diversity"

The good....

um.. Ill have to think about it.. uh..ok.. a great place to be a policeman because youre so busy
Bank robbery capitol of the US
Auto theft capitol of the US
Homicides are down... I think theres only about 2500 a year now...
