We are blessed and I mean this sincerely. On our street we have the best neighbors. It's a mixed bag and everyone is kind especially on our block Our wonderful neighbor just catered my grandson's Celebration of Life as he passed away. He owns a restaurant in Manhattan Beach (Mexican) and it is delish. He did a fantastic job. We have Latinos, Whites on our street. I would say the vast majority in Wiseburn are Latino, White, and other ethnic groups but that's the majority. Working class people - would help you if you needed it.

I grew up in Torrance during a time when it was mostly all White and the was back in the 60's. I love diversity. I think it is good for us as long as we all want the same thing - safe communities.

Using the same idea, some homeowners want their new neighbors to be able to speak English. Is that really racist?
Absolutely.

yes, it's racist but even if it weren't, it would require an entire new bureaucracy, who would test each applicant for a mortgage or a rental to test and certify the language(s) they are fluent in. Then for bilingual people we would need an enforcement arm which could respond to reports of someone speaking mandarin or spanish in the backyard of the english only community

there would be no need for that if only immigrants went through the legal process. to be able to speak and write English is a requirement for those immigrating thru skilled/professional visa

my grandparents were immigrants, they all learned enough English to pass the citizenship test and spoke their native language at home until the day they died.

Foreign students studying in our schools are required to speak English. Is that racist too?

Foreign students are taught by English-speaking professors in our schools. There is a level of English proficiency that foreign students must pass to gain any value from taking their courses here.
