They're always running California bashing articles in the Las Vegas Review Journal, striking fear in Nevada residents that we're going to be Californinized some day. Laughs, laughs, laughs and more!

What are they afraid of? That the NV economy will one day grow from being the 60 or 70th largest economy in the world to being 20th or 10th?

NV just doesn't have the intelligence, creativity or imagination for that! Best Las Vegas can do is become an outlying suburb of L.A.!

But either way, the point was that if you take away Silicon Valley that CA would be on par with KENTUCKY !

That was the claim. Whether 480 or 800 billion, it is not even one-half of the state's GDP. So the idea that CA would be a Kentucky without it becomes preposterous.

High cost of living pushes GDP up as well.

Quality of life is what matters to me. How do those outside the top 10% live?
You make a good point. The fact that the CA cost of living is so high also inflates its GDP.

But either way, we are not KENTUCKY which is what Danbo was trying to say

LA County alone is twice the population of Kentucky

Maybe better to compare LA to Kentucky and still probably ahead.

Some of you do understand what GDP means. It's about production, economic activity is something else.

A truck driver moves manufactured goods from one place to another, but does not produce those goods. It's not about the grocery store's economic impact, it's about the goods that grocery store sells.

Look at what your state produces... then take away Silicon Valley. I'm just saying that the passing by of one dominate industry is a state killer; see Michigan.

GDP/GNP = value of goods and services produced.

whether you are only spewing hot air just like those is Washington DC, you still produced services

your outlook is still in the 19th century.production..

have you read about bull**** jobs?

https://strikemag.org/bull****-jobs/

it maybe meaningless to you about todays job but still a job

even the Kentucky Derby produces a lot of economic activity and that is just about racing horses

what is important is the amount of money circulating in an area

They're providing a service though, that's included in GDP.
