Having worked and recreated in both parks.

Go to Yosemite.

Leave Fresno early....and do the Yosemite Valley as early as possible. Leave Fresno in the dark if possible. Drive to Glacier Point...and on the way back to Fresno go to Mariposa Grove for the Giant Sequoia’s. It is a great grove...most people will not notice the difference between it and the groves in Sequoia National Park.

There are only two Yosemite Valley’s in the world. Both are in Yosemite National Park, but the city of San Francisco flooded the other one with their dam.

There is no place like Yosemite Valley in the world anymore.

Yosemite only if you have no more time than that. Anything Sequoia has (Giant Sequoia groves) so does Yosemite plus much more. Sequoia is a beautiful place no doubt but Yosemite is an incomparable gem. There's nothing like it in the entire world. I lived 50 minutes from Yosemite for 18 years and worked in the park for seven. I've been to Sequoia a number of times as well. Again, its very nice, but there's no comparison with Yosemite.

Yosemite has three Giant Sequoia Groves (Mariposa, Merced and Tuolumne). The Mariposa Grove is the largest and just inside the park's southern entrance from Highway 41 (from Fresno). Sequoia National Park as more groves and trees, but the three groves in Yosemite are still spectacular. You really can't go wrong with either park though.
