I am lately amazed with these two cities - Palm Springs, California and Sitges, Spain.

Both have similar but at the same time different vibes, good climate, golf courses, restaurants, cafes, huge mansions, gay community and wealthy citizens. Both are close to huge hub cities (Palm Springs is moderately close to L.A. and San Diego whilst Sitges is right next to Barcelona).

How would you compare these cities and which one would you choose to visit and/or reside?

PALM SPRINGS, California, USA

SITGES, Spain, EU

"right next to water" = more people, crowds, congestion, traffic

I'll take Palm Springs.

I'm sure traffic and congestion in Palm Springs is much worse seeing as it's not walkable, accessible by train, and is next to a car-obsessed metro of 15 million people.

Yeah, Stiges is pretty magical. I remember as a very young gay man, 18 y.o., accidentally ending up there per a fellow Australian traveler’s suggestion with my straight brothers on a European rail adventure and looking around as we arrived that, something is very different about this place. I seemed to be getting a lot of attention from the guys at all the pubs we walked by and it just seemed like “my people” lol, even almost 10 years before I actually officially came out. This was 35 years ago so much may have changed.

Palm Springs is just a retired gay Mecca, not that that’s a bad thing but it is not going to have that Mediterranean get away gay beach town that the Stiges I remember possessed.

To each their own. I think Sitges looks too cramped/densely populated. Walkability and public transportation are not important factors to me ... I'm a suburb/rural kind of guy, and prefer personal transportation.
