Weaverville looks like a neat little town as well. It has a nice blend of the four seasons, too. I looked up the climate data. They average about 22" of snow per year and 35" of rain, with a definite hot/warm summer and cool to cold winter. Nice for those seeking a four-season climate.

Weaverville is a great town, and close enough to Redding to easily get there and back in an afternoon. Highway 299 has recently been re-graded and straightened east of Weaverville too which makes the trip even easier. Really underrated imo

Look at the Auburn/Cool area (forest, fishing, river rafting). Look on the Auburn side for more nearby amenities (e.g., hospital). But the advice to check on insurability is sound; you should do this wherever you decide to buy rural property.

If I could find sustainable work in the area, I’d love to live in the Weaverville area. I’m in Southern California and itching to escape this overpopulated, congested metropolis. I’ve toyed with relocating to either Northern California or Oregon and/or Washington. I think I prefer to stay on or near the West Coast since I dislike overly hot and humid weather: some hot weather is ok, but not combined with high humidity. Furthermore, I like green areas — areas with a lot of trees and forested areas — so that pretty much eliminates most of the Southwest (outside of mountainous areas — which are a possibility as well). So, to me, Northern California, Oregon, and Washington seem like great options. I do like actual seasons as well, something we lack here in So. Cal (except for the mountain areas).
