The idea to split the state is such a non-starter but now there's a plan to convert half of California into an 'autonomous Native American nation'. Surely this is a joke.. or is it?

Talk about it.. I dare ya!

Coastal CA to the Inland/Central Valley areas:

"We despise you. We are culturally, economically, and intellectually superior to you in every way. You are an anchor to our image and stain on Californias reputation. We laugh and mock and ridicule you for fun and your only useful purpose is to be our whipping boy and dumping ground for derision."

Inland/Central Valley areas in response: "Well there's no love lost here you tree hugging Communist lunatics. Can we please just go our own way since we hate each other anyway?

Coastal CA: ABSOLUTELY NOT. "We MUST keep this great state intact. If it's something YOU want, we MUST deny it at all costs. No way we can allow you to be happy. We own and control you even though we hate you and would much rather have you as a noose around our neck before we let you get something you would want."

This about sums it up.

So true! It’s almost like the state is on the verge of a civil war these days.

Sounds like giving the Indians their own "Country" beyond what is already done.

News story about this below--had to google it to see if it was real.

This is that Marinelli guy that was behind some truly weird California propositions in the past, none of which have even passed the "it's legal" test, let alone made it to a ballot.

'Calexit' supporters revamp campaign with plan to convert half of California into 'autonomous Native American nation' | Fox News

Oh, and by the way--the guy proposing this was born in New York and currently lives in Russia. Agenda?

I believe you're mixing up 2 different "movements" based on your title and post.

My understanding is that CalExit is a separate plan from the 3 Californias plan which came from the same guy who originally proposed a 6 Californias plan. I know--the guy keeps coming up with new goofy ideas.

From what I can tell, the 3 Californias guy mainly wants to make Silicon Valley a separate state and is trying different ideas to achieve that end. He has money and paid to gather a lot of signatures to put the measure on the ballot. A court has put that on hold however.

The CalExit guy comes across like a nut and his "plan" keeps mutating, depending on who he's talking to. He wants California to secede from the country and at first said the new state of California would give all federal lands back to the Indians to form their own autonomous nation. I don't think he thought that through very carefully as I doubt the federal government would give up their land to a California that seceded from the nation.

In another version of his plan, the CalExit guy wants to give all of eastern California to the Indians and then tell people who own homes, property and businesses that they are subject to the new Indian country and its laws and can move if they don't like it. He apparently doesn't see the irony of giving Indians land to compensate them for America taking their lands and then taking lands away from people who actually paid for it and giving it to the Indians.

It will never happen. All the water and water delivery systems would suddenly be in the hands of another state's government and that simply can't be allowed.

Pretty sure there is federal regulation of water between states ... don’t think one can restrict natural supply from another. Maybe someone can chime in and clarify that.

Water rights are always an issue. Just because someone "legally" can't do something, doesn't stop them from physically doing it (reference every murder, that's illegal ya know). There's currently a lawsuit between FL and GA over water rights..

Supreme Court finally rules on Florida’s 30-year water war with Georgia. And it’s not over.

Happens everywhere there's water that flows across state boundaries. Usually it's not the complete blockage of water, just one party claiming the other is taking more than their fair share.
