Default Palm Springs electric bills

My girlfriend and I are planning on moving to the Palm Springs area in the next few months. We are planning on renting a 2 bedroom apartment for the short-term. We have a great idea of gas and rent prices but no real idea of A/C and electric costs. What can we realistically expect to pay in electricity bills?

It really depends on a few factors such as age of the apartment building, how well insulated it is, the age and efficiency of your A/C unit, and how cool you like to be.

For the bulk of the hot months in Palm Springs, the daytime temps will be over 100 degrees and the nighttime temps usually do not drop down beyond the low 90's to upper 80's. Given that, your A/C gets almost a non-stop workout.

So, if you keep your thermostat set at 80 degrees or higher, I would expect that you would see electrical bills well over $100 a month. If that is not a temperature you can tolerate and go for a thermostat setting of between 70-75 degrees, your bills will be in the $200 plus a month range.
