Thanks to you the plan's getting easier. I liked the way you described the trimesters.

Can't choose just one
It finally dawned on me why I hadn't responded to this post sooner -- too many choices. Just one place? Forget it! But that was a revelation in itself. If money were not an issue, it'd probably come down to floating around all over the state:
Mount Shasta City
Downtown San Diego
Eureka/Arcata
Santa Monica Mountains
Crescent City
North Malibu Coast (Trancas to Yerba Buena)
Sacramento downtown
Oxnard/Ventura
Trinity County
Bridgeport (northeast-central Sierra)
Davis
Frazier Park
Mendocino
Hermosa Beach
Half Moon Bay
Chatsworth (Lake Chatsworth, Box Canyon)
Mount Palomar
Piedras Blancas to SLO

Cre8 is right, lots of gems. Heres a few more:
Sebastopol, Anderson Valley, Nicasio, Fairfax, Mill Valley, Moraga, Aptos, Carmel Valley, Santa Inez, SLO, Chester (Lake Almanor), Mariposa, Angels Camp, Santa Barbara.

My answer is...
A lake front home on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe
A ranch in Santa Ynez
A beach front home in Trancas

Did a quick review of the responses in this thread and it seems that the Santa Barbara area and Carmel are the top 2 choices of people
