possible job in simi valley, where to live?
I might be forced to relocate to simi valley for a job in the next few months. I have never been out around that area before so I am just curious about simi valley and the surrounding areas. From what i've read on the boards so far, it seems that simi valley would be terrible and boring for a young single guy to live in.
so, from some google mapping and wikipedia, i have made a beginning list of areas to research. Of these area's, which is the best:
thousand oaks, westlake village, agoura hills, oak park, and calabasas.
how are the commutes from these differnt places to simi valley (since my work is in simi valley)?
or are the commutes bad and should i be looking at places such as chatsworth and porter ranch?

Depends on what you can afford///
Simi Valley.. or also known as Slimey Valley by locals actually does have some nicer areas.. and new housing has been built all over the place.. but there are also gangs and the like
If you can afford Westlake Village, Agoura Hills, Calabasas and then Thousand Oaks..known as T.O.. in that order you probably go from most desirable to less attractive,, but all of these cities have their positives... commutes to Simi will be 15-30 minutes on good days.. bad days.. anyones guess (there are "back roads" to take which you will learn)
The first three cities were part of my patrol area.. these are upscale safe affluent cities for the area. They are generally expensive but have the infrastructure to go with it. All of them have bedroom communities and not industrial/commercial mixes. They are all centrally located on the 101 freeway and are closer to the ocean. If you can afford upscale Westlake Village... its the best choice hands down.. lots of beautiful startlet Southern California gals.. which is exactly what a single guy wants to see...
On top of this you get L.A. County contract services.. which means better Sheriff (ok.. so Im biased) and Fire.. and government in general
The babes await you
good luck
One other place you might consider is Camarillo...in Ventura County

thank you for responding and giving me some tips. i will definately check out all the areas, and i am glad that it seems that the various commutes to simi valley are much shorter than what i thought they would be. After more reading, it seems that T.O. would be the best blend for affordabiliy, proximity, and 'culture'. However, i'll be coming out soon to check all of these places out first hand to make the right move.

I agree with everything "notmeofficer" says except LA county having better services.
You definitely want to be in Ventura County. LA county is a zoo (ok... so I'm a bit biased)
