Speaking of rich people in Santa Barbara.. :P Is it expensive to live there? I mean if you do not have to pay any rent. (I will live with a host family...)

I mean, is it expensive to eat, go to the movies, and things like that.. Compared to the rest ov the US. (Or the rest of California..)

The short answer is "yes" but not prohibitively. For example, gas is typically slightly more expensive in SB than, say, Ventura or Los Angeles counties. Same goes for restaurants and groceries. Purportedly it's the cost of trucking those items in from faraway distances that drives up the price. Movies are about the same as surrounding communities -- too much for the experience, IMO.

Primarily what makes Santa Barbara expensive is housing and suppressed wages, but it sounds like neither of these are concerns for you as an exchange student living with a host family. Enjoy yourself!

Well that sounds ok.. How about shopping then? Do they have any good malls close to or in Santa Barbara?

By the way.. How much does it cost to go to the movies around there?

I think it's really expensive here in Sweden where I live, about $15 if you convert the price to dollars..
