I doubt that any locals will ask a man in uniform his religious beliefs. On the other hand I wouldnt go around shouting "ALLAH AKBAR!" too loudly!

Good question. I doubt too many people are going to care in Santa Maria about your religion. My brother-in-law and sister are Muslim and lived in Santa Barbara and no one had a problem there. Lompoc may be another story depending on where you live in it.

I just did a quick search. It appears there are Islamic Centers in both Santa Maria and Lompoc. If you are looking for more info or a community to join you might contact them.

Central Coast Islamic Center of Santa Maria
(805) 352-1922

Islamic Center of Lompoc
(805) 735-1785

Islamic Center San Luis Obispo
(805) 781-9403

Cal Poly is roughly 30 or 40 minutes north of Santa Maria and there are several Muslim student organizations also.

There is not a large population of Muslims in Santa Maria that I am aware of , but too be honest, it will no way be an issue or concern. Good citizens are always welcome in my book.
