Northern CA Weather
Hi,
I'm from Oregon and I cannot take anymore gray skies. I've always been interested in moving to southern CA, but I see so many negative reviews I don't know if I would want to anymore.
Anyway, is the northern CA to middle CA weather sunny most of the time?
It doesn't have to be warm necessarily, just have some sunny daylight. Even 3 out of 7 days would be good. Is it nice all year or just in the spring/summer? I just can't take this daily gray for months on end anymore. I'm wondering about the valley and the beach areas. I don't want to go anymore inland than that.
Thanks for any info.

Don't listen to all the nay-sayers on the Los Angeles board! Come down for a visit and see for yourself. Just be aware that the beach areas are very expensive, because everyone wants to live there.
Also, we get the marine layer along the coast, which consists of low clouds that sometimes hang around all day, especially during May and June (hence the names "May Gray" and "June Gloom". If you want sunshine, the coast may not be the best place for you to live!

According to City Data stats, SF is supposed to be very sunny. On the Money Best Places survey, SF had 44% clear days compared to Orlando, FL with 24%.

I moved from Portland, OR to San Francisco, CA about 4.5 years ago and have been very pleased with the weather here. Spring and fall are actually the nicest and warmest seasons, summer can be foggy and cool, especially in neighborhoods near the ocean and winter is the “rainy” season however, is no where near as rainy and gray as Oregon. It is rare to experience rain/gray for more than a few days in a row and it is very typical, to have many consecutive sunny days. It rarely gets hot in the city, so if you are looking for higher temperatures you would want to live in the east bay or south bay. The north bay is also warmer than the city but not usually hot unless you go fairly far north.

Well, i'm in Santa Cruz and today it is about 75 degrees and very sunny.
It's unusually warm this weekend and the fog has not arrived yet for it's still early spring.
The summers are warm (upper 70's - low 80's) and the fog comes and goes and often hugs the coast line but just a few miles inland the sun always shines on.
And there are days and times in the summer when the fog stays away.
If you're used to Oregon, you probably won't be bothered by it at all.
I find it refreshing and when it's hot inland it's a relief to be close to the coast.
The fog goes away in the fall and then around the beginning of November the rain comes. Throughout the winter there are days of rain but often the hard rain is at night and the days can be soft rain or none at all (or sometimes lots of it ... very variable).
And needless to say, some winters are rainier than others.
I don't find it opressive though.
Then there can be stretches of days (sometimes many, many [even a couple of weeks]) where there is no rain at all and lots of sun with temps generally in the low 50's and sometimes the lower 60's.
I was walking on the beach this Feb. in my t-shirt.
Soooooooo, come on down .

Thanks for the info. I will keep these places in mind and start researching more. It will be awhile before I can make a move anyhow, but it is nice to have a certain goal in mind.
Thanks.
