Default Farmer's markets humboldt county

I'm missing the Farmer's market in Davis CA--8 kinds of beets, many more varieties of tomato, 6 or 8 kinds of melons and anything else you can think of.

Here on the east coast (Philadelphia), we have a number of farmer's markets that vary from expensive and flavorless (stored cold) tomatoes and wood-like corn to really excellent produce with some variety (doesn't match CA, but then it's not CA.)

I'm planning a move to Eureka and would like to know how the availability of fresh, local, organic produce compares to more southern CA locations. Specifically, are there many farmers markets in Humboldt county? Are they open year round or just summer? How's the produce selection? What about pasture fed meats and free range chicken?

humboldt county is great for natural, local, organic food. there are farmers markets all summer in arcata and eureka. i'm not sure about year round. Both arcata and eureka have two large supermarket-sized organic/natural food stores that are locally owned.

The Farmers Market in Arcata just opened for the season, it's on Saturday. They also have them on various days in Eureka , Fortuna and possibly a couple of others but they are definitely seasonal. Eureka Natural Foods and the Co-op are good but the other local markets carry organic food, grass-fed beef etc. good availability but spendy (of course). Painted Hills beef, which I think is actually headquartered in Redding. There's a foodie culture here as well as the natural stuff. Wildberries in Arcata has fantastic takeout food.
We eat well here. Poor job market and we can't afford to buy gas but golly we eat well. Good luck in your move.!
