Default How much is Car Insurance?

In New York City car insurance is expensive just because you live in the city. Is it the same in southern California?

It depends what zip code you're in. It varies.

OK, Riverside.. I just ran a quote for myself with 21st Century and it came out to $818/6 mo for full coverage and $500 deductibles, the bulk of it being for collision. That's about on par with downtown San Francisco.

We have $760/6 mo for 2 cars and 2 drivers, full coverage with 500 deductible, uninsured motorist and more. That's with AIG.

I'm pretty sure thats not entirely true. I actually was looking for the same info and i just found this article about california insurance costs not being based on zip code, but on driving records. The URL is {http://}CaliforniaAutoInsuranceGuide{Dot}com/california-auto-insurance-rates-now-based-on-driving-record-not-zip-code/ (remove brackets. Not sure if i could post hyperlinks here so i'm playing it safe).

The gist of the article is that pricing used to be based on zip codes, but Proposition 103 was passed in 1988 (and finalized July 14, 2008 - wonder why these things take 20 years?!!?) and it says that insurance pricing has to be based on driving record. not zip code. it makes sense.

if your getting zip-code based pricing something is probably off...

that site also has a good article on the top 10 worst auto insurers (2006). good info too.
