Default Apartments in SLO???

I'm having some trouble finding a apartment in San Luis Obispo or in Paso Robles.

I want to spend 1000-1500 and would like a 1-2 bedrooms.

There are very few places in this price range for some reason. And the ones that are, are being snatched up the minute they hit craigslist!

Any suggestions? Websites? Anybody have something to rent???

I'm coming out there next week to look around but at this rate I'll only have a couple places to see.

Don't know why I'm having such a hard time.

This is the worst time of year to be looking for a rental. All the Cal Poly students are securing leases for the 08-09 school year. Come June or July things will ease up a bit.

Also, don't bother looking at rentals near the campus, these go the fastest and have a premium placed on them based on their proximity to school. You want to be in the non-student rental market.

Default be patient, or look south

Something should turn up in SLO. If not, consider the five cities area, just 10 minutes south, like Arroyo Grande or Grover Beach. Avila Beach is just stunning... but few rentals there. If you STILL can't find something, try Santa Maria, which is a 35 minute drive from SLO. I was a grad student at Cal Poly SLO for two years and lived in Santa Maria. Granted, it doesn't have the scene that downtown SLO does, but I rented a decent apartment for 800 bucks. One more caveat though... at that time, gas was only $1.50 per gallon.
