Off the top of my head, if I had to choose any of those places, I'd choose a gated area of Stockton, or Clovis or Fig Garden in Fresno, before Bakersfield.

Hi ... I have lived in Bakersfield my whole life. Other than the summer heat, which only last about 3 months, the other 9 months are perfect. As for the "oil fields" stay away from the north side and way out west. We live in Rosedale and hardly notice the oil fields.

Well, i'm passing on BF. The more i looked the better it seems to tick every box i need better then any other place in california. But reading about the air pollution i came ro realize it;s horribly bad and at my age i think it could be a serious issue. Too bad because i saw more houses that fit my budget and needs than i have seen in all california for the several years i have been looking. I guess it's to be expected tho.....any place that's got great pricing is going to reveal a reason whay that is once you dig deep enough.

Hello guys and girls
I'm looking at a job in bakersfield , I went through the 3 threads here and it seems like there are definately pros and cons for this city.
I can live anywhere within bakersfield or upto an hour NORTH /N.W of it.I would like a place which will have good schools and a safe /relatively affordable neighborhood [ house under 500k]
Any suggestions which neighborhoods of bakersfield or smaller towns around it might be a good option ?
Thanks

Tehachapi maybe? Not a big city like Bakersfield but, you could easily commute to work to Bakersfield. Tehachapi has good schools and decently priced homes.

Not just that, but Tehachapi is at a higher altitude, which means cooler temps. Bakersfield can be miserably hot in summer.
