Default Move from Bay Area to Fresno?

My boyfriend and I have been together for 4 years and he grew up in Fresno. We are contemplating moving there this summer. Rent prices are DEFINETELY favorable, but I was wondering...How's the job market out there? The social scene? Is Fresno City College a good school? I have lived in the San Fransisco Bay Area my whole life and any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

If you have spent your time around Martinez you may find it a fairly easy move in some regards.

The job market will depend upon your skills and what you are looking for. Unemployment is high at about 10%, but much of that consists of people in low skilled labor work.

FCC has some good programs, dental hygiene, networking, and trades all come to mind.

In terms of the social scene that depends upon what you are looking to find. There are a variety of niches and entertainment. It is also growing, a small amusement park with several roller coasters will open in a few months, a Cabo Wabo bar will be opening soon. Many of the concert tours now stop in Fresno. What type of social scene are you looking to find?

We're not huge party people but it is nice to go to an upscale bar or a dance club once in a while. One of the things I really like about the Bay Area is the unique shopping and all the cool thrift stores. How's the shopping out that way?

Shopping is improving, with more of the upscale chain stores opening. The latest announcement is J Crew which will open later this year.

Unusual boutiques are scattered around town, but are not as prevalent yet as the chains. There are some good second hand/thrift store places for shopping. I know people who go down to the Tower District (Fresno's alternative scene area) and shop at Retro Rag. There are also other places like Fellinis and Valentinos.

I can't get specific about clubs, we are edging beyond the clubbing age and only go out dancing at a couple of small places with cover bands playing classic rock. But I hear that Roe and Twist are popular right now.
