Default work in 29 palms, live elsewhere?

Hi I have an interview in twentynine palms. I am nervous about it since I have heard its not the best place to live. But, It is a contractor position with the military and probably something I would only do for a year or two....good job. So it might be well worth it to me. I'm a 31 SWF. I do have friends in Victorville so that is nice.

anyway, my question is -- would I have to live in 29 palms or is there any place I could commute from that might be a little bit better? Any thoughts?

Thanks. I'm curious about the area but trying to be realistic about what is livable for me. It seems beautiful (I like desert scenery and am pretty adaptable) but it might wear me down after awhile...

notinkeys is on a distinguished road
Besides 29 Palms, Joshua Tree isn't too far (but I would not recommend it) and Yucca Valley as well.

If you don't mind the rather dull drive, I'd say go to Yucca if you didn't want to live in 29. It's a straight shot on California 62, about a half hour drive. Yucca is closer to Palm Springs for weekend entertainment.
