Now that HAS changed. The tubs are no longer available 24 hours. They shut down at midnight during the week and 2 AM on weekends. I miss soaking after a late night out.

SLO has the best downtown i have EVER seen! Thursdays farmers market concept should be copied by other similar sized cities who are looking to bring foot traffic downtown. To the OP--as a security professional, i can assure you that you have nothing to worry about if you want to stroll downtown SLO! Good luck!

Paso Robles, Atascadero, San Luis Obispo, Pismo Beach. The main cities in the county. They have the most entertainment. The 4 main cities each have a premier shopping center. The downtown in SLO is one of the premier shopping centers. Not to mention, SLO Downtown and Pismo Beach are couple of the biggest tourist attractions in this county. The fair in Paso Robles (3rd biggest in state) and families visiting their kids at Cal Poly would be main reasons people come to this county, and would be the two biggest tourist attractions.

I grew up in the area and I would personally prefer to live in Los Osos or Morro Bay. Having said that, I honestly believe, with all things considered, San Luis Obispo is probably the best city to live in in the United States. Even though housing costs are high and good jobs aren't necessarily plenty, there isn't a better place. I absolutely don't want every Tom, Dick and Harry to move here, I'm just being honest.

I drive from Paso to Cal Poly to teach (yes, I am 28, and I just got my MA. Graduated from Poly with my BA and MA). I love San Luis, but I can also see how the influx of college students might be annoying. Downtown is usually "dead" in the summer (well, it seems dead when the students have left). But there isn't a college student "problem" (IMPO although every Fall the newspapers run articles about the families v. college students). Sure, if you live next to campus, your oranges might be stolen from your orange tree (my professor complains about people stealing his oranges in the middle of the night), but there are plenty of nice communities. The weather is always a perfect 70-80 degrees, and it is a 10 minute drive to the beach.

In regards to the comment about Asians, I'm not sure if I really notice "a lot" of them. If anything, Cal Poly is trying to become more "multicultural" because its reputation as a white, middle class university. San Luis seems pretty white to me (and I am white so no haters).

I would take SLO over humidity in FL any day!!!! =)
