Hey everyone, 20M here. So within the next few months I'll be moving to Fresno and working as an EMT, so I'm trying to get an idea of apartments to rent. I have read some tips elsewhere about what to look for(take pictures, check for cracks and holes, read reviews etc). I don't need a whole bunch of fancy amenities, but my main thing is that my budget is $800-$900, maybe $1,000 at most(prefer 1-bedroom but studio will suffice), preferably wouldn't want to be a high crime area and I for damn sure don't want to deal with **** like roaches. I'm(slowly) in the process of trying to get over a *lifelong* phobia of them, but even then they do spread germs and considering the work I will be doing after finishing my training program, I wouldn't want to come home to more nasty stuff.

That said, I have done some browsing online and have a list of some of the options I found:

[Bullard Gardens Apartments](https://www.apartments.com/bullard-g...-ca/bt4frjc/): From what I can see from the Google reviews, there are no reports of pests and such, and can't find any other reports from other sources, although there are some complaints about [management's attitude.](https://www.apartmentratings.com/ca/...9431765393710/)

[Fulton Village:](https://www.apartments.com/fulton-vi...no-ca/0jt6dr3/)

Again, main complaint seems to be management, although there's mention of a minor roach problem and then homeless people and lack of cleanup for dog feces.

North Park Apartments [definitely has quite a few complaints all over,](https://www.google.com/search?q=nort...6fbc9ebe2ee5,1,,,) so that's out of the equation. I currently live at home still in an town between the main Bay Area and Sacramento. I do plan to drive down to Fresno to get a first hand look in a few weeks, but did start trying to get a picture of what to look for when that comes. Any input is appreciated. Thank you.

Default I need help finding a decent apartment in Fresno...

-Budget is $800-$900 for rent, maybe $1,000 at most

-I would prefer not to be in a high crime area as much as possible

-I don't want to deal with a severe pest problem, especially roaches. Regardless of my phobia of them they spread germs and considering the work I will be doing in EMS, I would prefer to come home without as little nastiness as possible (I'm a fairly clean person).

I have done some browsing online and have a couple of prospective options:

I can't help specifically, but i there is even a mention of roaches "minor roach infestation", steer clear of that place. Minor can become major pretty quick. We once rented an apartment, that looked so clean & nice when we viewed it, but after moving in, we saw roaches climb the walls, the complex had a major infestation, & did not spray often enough to get rid of them, I was so happy to leave that dump. Good luck.

Thanks, and good point. The review that said that was a couple years back, but I will still be wary. The Bullard Gardens from what I can find has no report of pests or cleanliness problems, but there is some complain about the manager. At the very least it is worth a look when I do get the time. I realize that you can't completely keep out pests though. I definitely plan on talking to residents to get an idea, as Internet reviews ca be biased, fake, etc. But yeah that **** is just gross, and even more of a problem if you are allergic to them(I'm not, but still).

Any other tips?

Yes, you definitely want to avoid any place that has signs of roaches or bed bugs infestation.

(note, I am not familiar with the neighborhoods in Fresno)

Stick with places in 93720, 93730, and 93611, generally.

Bullard Gardens is actually a decent bet, but you'll get a lot of university traffic (once they open up).

I used to live at Windscape on Nees and liked it. Fantastic location. There were other complexes near it, too.

My husband used to live at Casa de Luna on Fresno St and he had no trouble there, but it was a bit too sketchy for me.

I know this apartment building. Was well maintained but Van Ness is a busy street and the apartment has no off street parking.

Yeah Bullards seemed to be pretty good. But may have to hold on that and maybe rent out a room for the first year.

I agree. If you don't mind room mates for a while, renting a room is a good way to save money. Plus it will give you time to see which parts of town you like the most. Unsolicited advice, save money out of each paycheck.
