Somehow I think you fit more into the treasure category than the trash in your little proverb.

No, because there is no such thing as the "best place in California". Everybody has different needs and wants, so no place is "best". Best to some means no traffic, to others it means nice views, to others it means lower cost, to others it means far from crime, or low taxes, or better schools, or nearer to the ocean , or nearer to the city, or farther from the city.

If I had unlimited budget and wanted a secluded place, and it had to be in California, I would buy a vineyard in Napa or Sonoma. I love that area. You can always lease out the actual vines to a winemaker in the region. The gorgeous scenery reminds me of Tuscany.

Or maybe one of the beautiful mansions in Lake Tahoe. Lakefront with a lovely boathouse, views of the peaks, near enough to enjoy the casinos in a 20 minute drive, skiing in the winter, boating the summer. Aaaaaah.....

The absolute last place you would find me is in southern California, unless it was a beachfront mansion. Beverly Hills is old school, overpriced, just a name that people think is glamorous. Like we have said before, it's for people who think they deserve the glamour, but also need to be near the entertainment business for their work. I wouldn't put up with that traffic, air pollution, and all the junk that goes with LA for all the money in the world.

Have you considered other states beside California? CA has a lot of overly restrictive laws, and taxes that are much higher than the rest of the country. Home prices in the LA area are 5 times what they are in many other parts of the country. I know you say you have plenty of dough, but wouldn't you like to keep some of it? Or would you rather spend it all on a home in an earthquake and fire prone sprawl of concrete and asphault stretching 60 miles in each direction? A place that doesn't get hardly a drop of rain for 6 months out of the year?

Not sure if this original post is legit (it could be a troll). But, if this person can afford a $100M mansion, I highly doubt tax considerations are a major factor. Sort of like someone who's sort of rich flies first class while someone who's ultra rich flies their private Gulfstream wherever and whenever they want to go.

So I think yall are painting Beverly Hills in a negative image.

Ruth I checked out Pebble beach, Los Altos Hills, Hillsborough Real Estate. Latter Two are on hills which is a No-Go for me and Pebble Beach seems to be isloated rather than secluded.
Notice the word "hills" in "Beverly Hills". The neighborhood is also on hills. The more secluded properties especially.

I was going to suggest it, but we already overwhelmed the OP with options, so I didn't. Plus, I think he's looking for something more ostentatious than Carmel.
