Default Renting Beach House in Downtown Oceanside

My family and I are renting a beach house on South Myers street in Oceanside in three weeks. In researching our trip, I found gangs are a problem in downtown Oceanside. Should I be worried? Is this an o.k. address? What can I do to minimize a problem regarding our safety?
Thank you.

Go the Oceanside's police department site below. Click on facts and figures. I think it's the crime statistics, but if you follow the link it will take you to a page that shows crime in specific areas. It's a crime map. This should give you some information. Otherwise, I would call and speak to an officer and get first hand knowledge. It is my understanding that the downtown area has a large police force due to visitors. They want the area to be safe for tourists and are very visible. I wouldn't worry too much, unless you are walking around at 2AM in dark sleezy areas further from town. I understand your thoughts because of your kids and all. But why worry so much. Call the police directly and ask them. I'm sure your area is fine. If you speak to them direct, maybe you will be able to relax and enjoy your vacation and the area. I have called police departments before when purchasing property and they have been very helpful.
