Smile greatbasinguide re five acres surrounded by National Forest

Want our place? 5 acres surrounded by National Forest, comes complete with snow plow and loader, both of which you will use frequently
Dear "greatbasinguide":
Curious to know details about your five acres, assuming you have not sold them yet. Like where are they located (more precisely)? Structures on-site? Near lakes/rivers/streams? Is you asking price 900k?, etc. My wife and I have been searching the Gold Country (primarily Nevada City to Truckee) looking for the ideal high-country home for outdoor oriented couple, based in Palo Alto, with 5 kids and 6 grandkids. Love to hear from you. Gary
BYW: "Sierra" is plural, so the Sierra are beautiful.

Default General Characterization of Western Sierra Counties

>Retiring in Sierra Nevada?

Been thinking about just that lately (or at least about planning for it).
Looking for a piece of land close to (but below) the snow line, and I did a little exploring in Calaveras county on a visit to CA over the holidays (i'm living in TX).

I can get some info by trial and error on the web, but would really appreciate it if somebody who has a history in the area could give their general impressions of pluses/minuses of choosing one area over another. Counties i've been thinking about are those listed elsewhere in this thread (Nevada, El Dorado, Amador, Placer, Calaveras, Tuolumne, and possibly Butte.)
Are there substantially differing policies among these in terms of attitude toward growth (e.g. I've read that Calaveras has a current moratorium on new developments, and that El Dorado hits you heavily with fees for new construction).
Any other general observations about comparative tax/fee structures, quality of life, county services, etc would be great.

Aye, the Sierra are plural.

Our land is north of Truckee near Stampede lake. We live on it, have a few sheds and an old trailer for storage, three horses 4 llamas, no streams on property, near three lakes. Great mtn biking, motorcycling, cross country skiing, we are in a small development which was the last bastion of the survivorist/ hippies. We used to sno mobile in, but the county paved an plows the road. I did not put power in until I met my wife. Oh,, I am throwing in a 1962 Allis Chalmers diesel loader..

We have not settled on a price yet. But $900,000 sounds real good to us. We will research and put the home on the market in April. I don't think we will use a realtor, There is no way a realtor is going to earn 6% of the sales price, second thought, I will pay 6% to some one who brings in a million plus offer. The home is a four bedroom 2200 sq ft. with detached 1100 sq. ft, cover all fabric garage.

It is really a fine place, Since I stopped working in the ski industry and have to pay for lift tickets, I don't ski much, and sailing year round appeals to me. So, it is off to the Central Coast this summer

"Sierra" is both singular and plural; therefore, "The Sierra is beautiful." is correct.

Default Southern Sierra

Is anyone familiar with the Southern Sierra? Is it down on 395 heading south that the towns of Bishop is on? Is the property down this way as expensive as Tahoe area? Looking for a piece of land for retirement so work is not an issue at this time. Anyone know of this area? Thanks, mrvgs.
